Why Mother's Day Belongs in May

May is the month that spring comes to its fullness.  Blooms run riot, the air is warming, and the proverbial sap is indeed rising.  It is fitting as May gives birth to the world again, Mother's day should be contained in it.

Mothers represent the fulfillment of life's promise.  The maternal spirit is in all of us, really.  It is symbollic of the birth we all give to our hopes and dreams, plans and schemes.  It is the divine spark that comes through us and in born into the world.

Today of course, I cannot help but think about my own dear mother who delivered me so many years with the promise that she would always be there.  And she has kept that promise even if she did pass on thirty-seven years ago.  She is always with me.    It was her dream to be a mom.  I am glad I could help her with that.   It was my dream to be her son.  And although there were times that dream, with my antics, might have seemed a nightmare, in the end it was a blessing to each of us to have had this bond.   She taught me about love, grace and forgiveness.   If we are lucky we express it as sweetly and gently as my mother did.
