Going Into Debt Buying Time

Disclaimer: this blog is not about online shopping.  It is about something like it though, like when you try to "buy time" by putting something "in your cart" and plan to address it later...get it?

Anyone who has done some online shopping will surely recognize the logo here.  It is the one you click on when you decide to purchase something online like from Amazon or E-bay or Target.  You put your desired item into the cart and when you are done, you go to the cart and finalize your purchase.  Simple.  Easy, no?  Yes, it truly is.  And its easier to put the item into the cart than it is to commit sometimes and actually make the purchase.  Not unlike putting the proverbial cart before the horse before you even have a horse!

Okay, this is NOT about online shopping as I disclaimed above.  It is my "come to Jesus" moment where I am opening the cart I have been putting items into like inspirations, ideas, intentions, dreams and, yes, to-do's.  I knew it had to be filling up, but I had no idea.  I found some that had sat so long, they were no longer recognizable.  I'm sure there was a time I wanted to bake a bundt cake with gefilte fish and garlic dill pickles, but it must have been a dark and stormy night and that urge, thankfully, has long passed.  Delete.

But there were some very good ideas in the cart.  Write your blog.  Finish your photo blog about Italy.  Go on some spontaneous photo safaris.  Plan that trip to Cuba.  Or New England.  Or even Costco.  Can't remember the last time I went to Costco.  That's a trip to blog on all in itself!  As I read the list, I began to realize what I was really trying to do was buy time.  Yep.  I was putting things into my cart because I want to do them, but didn't feel I had the time, or the energy, to do them.  Eureka!  It hit me.  I had once again lost my way on the road to intended results!

I've been working on a big project most of the summer.  It took up most of my time and all of my energy.  And if I had the time, I didn't have the energy.  And vice versa.  And it wasn't even my project per se.  But it was one of those projects where I got to bring some order to chaos and for some perverse reason, that is somehow satisfying to me.  Of course, it left my own order to fall into a mild chaos of its own.  Intentions run amok.

So I told myself when you're done, you'll know it.  You'll have the time.  When you're done with this or with that...and new stuff kept getting added.  And my list was lost...but not forgotten.  For it was lost in this cart.  The one I just opened.  And tomorrow, yes, tomorrow, is the first day of September.  A new month.  A time for new beginnings.  So I click the button.  I bought the time.  I went into debt sort of, to myself.  Now its time to pay the piper.  And here you have it.  Its leaving the cart as soon as I click this button.  Thank heavens its never too late.  But best keep an eye on your cart.  There's more to life than filling it up.
