This is one of my favorite images from my visit to The Heidelberg Project in Detroit some time ago. It is an amazing outdoor art project in what was a wasteland especially after the '67 Riots. Having grown up in Detroit and being there during those riots, I had wondered if the city would ever recover. Re-use, re-purpose, found art. This is an amazing place.
The video here is from a recent segment on CBS' Morning Show. It is only five minutes long and tells the story of the Heidelberg Project that grew in a neighborhood not far from where my great-grandparents originally settled in the early 1900's.
